Do you know the Japanese traditional costume, the kimono?
Although its form has undergone changes since 1300 years, the kimono, sumptuous and beautiful,
was always very appreciated.
In Kyoto in particular, a dyeing process, the Kyoto Yuzen, has developed.
This method is unusual in the world, even in Japan,
there are only a few first-rate craftsman cleaners who maintain the tradition.
Everyone who love kimono and design of furnishings can apply the contest.
How to apply is simple. Let's imagine lovery kimono and furnishings which you want to wear.
And brush up your idea, express freely it.
Any drawing, illust, picture, is ok. Please tell us your longing kimono and furnishings.
The winning designs will be presented in exhibitions in Japan.
But also, the patterns will be used by the best craftsmen from Japan to dye a silk of the best qualities.
Let's try to the creation of a new product,
the crossover between traditional know-how from Japan and the artistic sense of you.

In a rectangle of width 21 cm and height 29.7 cm, draw the pattern for the fabric.Any drawing, illust, CG is OK.
On the registration form, thank you for writing in English: name / address / email / meaning of your production and where you came your idea.
You must color your achievement (also partially accepted; material color is your choice)

important recommendations
-Each participant can send only up to 3 designs.
-If some works get prize, the organizer will have the copyright of them.
-Please do not duplicate the design of kimono which are sold.

When the office doubt the copyright of the work, we exclude it from the contest.
-The office will not return an each work to an applicant.
-The works can not participate in another competition.
-Registration fees are free.
-The deadline is 20th Jun, 2012.
Announcement of results
Prizewinner will be contacted by mail in late August 2012.
The creations will be exhibited in the city of Kyoto, Nijo Castle, World Heritage of UNESCO, and in five other locations in Japan, hosting the exhibition.
Exhibition in Kyoto, you will notice on this site to determine the end of April 2012.
Overseas, we plan to hold the exhibition in Paris, France in February 2013.

How the Kyoto Yuzen ?
The fabric used for Kyoto Yuzen is the finest silk made in Japon.Sur it, dyers, who were trained for many years, draw an illustration. To separate the delicate parts of the pattern to color, going from the glue around the model. It then fills with bright colors to give a shiny appearance.
